Your coaches

Two photographers. One way of teaching.

Focused Eye is run by two working fine-art photographers, Diane Bentley Raymond in San Francisco and Sarah Lyons Glabman in Arizona. Both came to this work by reinventing themselves, both still rise before dawn for the light, and both coach every workshop together, five guests each.

Diane Bentley Raymond

Co-founder and coach · San Francisco, California

Diane is a San Francisco fine-art photographer drawn to the quiet minutes between night and day, when fog drifts through the city and a place you know by heart suddenly looks new. Most mornings she is out before sunrise, camera set up in the dark, waiting to see what the light will do.

She came to photography after 25 years as a marketing consultant, taught herself the craft, and spent more than a decade photographing architecture and spaces for hospitality and commercial clients. Along the way she earned her FAA license to fly drones professionally, so much of her San Francisco is seen from above.

Her work is on the cover and throughout Trope Publishing’s Above and Across San Francisco, with a second San Francisco book with Trope coming in 2027. Her gallery, Diane Bentley Raymond Art, offers museum-quality acrylic prints of the city, the coast, forests, the American Southwest and the view from the air.

She is living proof that it is never too late to start, and she teaches that way: patient, optimistic, and focused on being there when the light shows up.

Sarah Lyons Glabman

Co-founder and coach · Arizona

Sarah has spent nearly two decades behind the camera. For most of that time she was known for photographing people in fitness, fashion and editorial work: hundreds of magazine covers, and a magazine of her own, BodyScape, which she founded and published.

In 2024 a journey through South Africa, Botswana and Namibia changed everything. Standing in those landscapes, she realized her camera was leading her somewhere new. Today she creates fine-art landscape and wildlife photography through SLG.Art, from gale-force winds on the coast of Iceland to remote Alaskan landscapes seen from her drone.

Based in Arizona, she knows the light of the Southwest by heart, from Sedona’s red rock to the slot canyons around Lake Powell.

Her advice to every student: give yourself permission to be bad at something before you become good at it. Ask the questions, take the class, try the thing that intimidates you, and never stop being a student. She still hasn’t.
